About Us

Trinity Orchestra, the symphony orchestra of Trinity College Dublin, is Ireland’s only fully student run orchestra. Bringing together students and staff from every discipline in the college, Trinity Orchestra is first and foremost a classical ensemble. Founded in 1989, the Orchestra has covered an extensive repertoire, from Bach and Beethoven to Tchaikovsky and Dvorák.

More recently the Orchestra has featured in the media for its covers of various popular artists such as Daft Punk, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and ABBA. Gaining much notoriety on both a national and international level, the Orchestra has become a popular favourite on the festival scene, taking to the Main Stage at festivals such as Metropolis, Forbidden Fruit and Electric Picnic.

Every year the one hundred strong ensemble performs two major classical concerts at various locations around Dublin. As well as this, the Orchestra tours annually, showcasing its work to international audiences around Europe, at locations including London, Madrid, Budapest and Lisbon. Chamber music is an integral part of the Orchestra, with regular chamber music concerts throughout the year; they give members opportunities to perform in smaller ensembles away from the main body of the orchestra.

Trinity Orchestra strives to be a platform for talented young musicians and composers to showcase their work, and is always open to submissions from students. Continually pushing the boundaries of the traditional orchestra, Trinity Orchestra has established itself as a much loved and cherished college institution.
